The Home Affordable Modification Program (HAMP) is designed to help financially struggling homeowners avoid foreclosure by modifying loans to a level that is affordable for borrowers now and sustainable over the long term.
Borrower eligibility is based on meeting specific criteria, including:
- A borrower being delinquent on their mortgage or facing an imminent risk of default
- The property in question must be the borrower's primary residence.
- The mortgage must have been originated on or before January 1, 2009, with an unpaid principle balance of no more than $729,750.
