Multiple Offenses
Second Offenses - A second DWI conviction within 10 years of the first is considered a felony. If convicted, an individual faces:
- Mandatory fines of up to $5,000
- Up to four years in prison
- License revocation for 18+ months
Third Offenses - A third offense within 10 years of the first is a felony and can result in:
- Fines of up to $10,000
- Up to seven years in prison
- License revocation for 18+ months (and the possibility of permanent license revocation)
Any DWI conviction can yield insurance consequences. Because a second or subsequent DWI is a felony, and individual's right to vote may be affected. Additionally, as a felon he or she may be unable to enter Canada. (This is true even with a conviction for the violation of DWAI)
