Orange County Traffic Tickets Attorneys

Contesting Traffic Tickets Can Save Money and Your License

If you are pulled over for a traffic offense, you do not have to pay the ticket immediately. Paying the fine is the equivalent of pleading guilty or being convicted. You can fight your ticket and potentially save money, your driving record and your license.

The lawyers at Silver, Forrester & Lesser, P.C., have significant experience in the local courts. We can appear in court for you to fight your traffic ticket, saving you time, money and hassle. We work hard to get the fairest deal possible, striving to avoid a ticket involving a moving or speeding violation that will affect your insurance rates and driver's license. Most clients make up the legal fee in a short time by saving money on license fines and increased insurance rates. To schedule a consultation with an Orange County traffic tickets lawyer, call 845.764.4757 or toll free at 866.687.1338, or contact us online.

The Cost of Traffic Violation Convictions

In New York, a traffic violation conviction will put points on your driver's license. If you accumulate 11 or more points in an 18-month period, your license may be revoked or suspended following a DMV hearing.

In addition, your auto insurance carrier will be notified if you get points on your license. Your carrier may increase your rates or terminate your coverage if you have 10 or more points.

See the chart below for the number of points assessed for New York traffic violations.

Traffic ViolationPoints
Speeding 1-10 MPH over the limit3
Speeding 11-20 MPH over the limit4
Speeding 21-30 MPH over the limit6
Speeding 31-40 MPH over the limit8
Speeding more than 40 MPH over the limit11
Reckless driving5
Failed to stop for a school bus5
Inadequate brakes4
Following too closely4
Passing improperly, changing lanes unsafely3
Failed to obey traffic signal, stop or yield sign3
Railroad crossing violation3
Passenger safety violation3
Leaving scene of property damage accident3
Inadequate brakes2
Other moving violations2

If you have six points on your license, you will receive a $300 fine; each additional point is another $75. As your attorneys, we work to ensure you receive the least points and smallest fines possible so you save money.

An additional reason you may want an attorney to contest a ticket is that if you get three speeding tickets, your license may be suspended or revoked, and you will have to undergo driver assessment. Even a simple traffic matter may require an attorney's help. For example, state troopers are no longer allowed to negotiate deals with you on tickets. You need an attorney to file motions for you.
